Palace Gate is seeking a Physical Data Modeler – Sybase or Oracle. This role is located in Chicago’s near suburbs. This is a short term (3 month) contract-to-hire opportunity.

Technical Skills

  • Understand and translate Logical Data Models into Physical Data Models supporting long-term solutions.
  • Exposure to SQL and InfoSphere DataStage preferred
  • PowerDesigner is preferred (ER/Studio or ERwin are fine must have experience with a Data Modeling tool)
  • 5-10 years Data Modeling experience with Sybase (ASE and IQ) or Oracle
  • Create Physical Data Models according to company standards and using best practices to ensure high data quality and reduced redundancy
  • Optimize and update physical data models to support new and existing projects
  • Maintain physical data models along with corresponding metadata
  • Help develop best practices for standard naming conventions and coding practices to ensure consistency of physical data models
  • Recommend opportunities for reuse of physical data models in new environments
  • Perform reverse engineering of physical data models from databases and SQL scripts
  • Evaluate physical models and databases for variances and discrepancies
  • Assist developers, ETL, DW, Reporting teams and end users to understand physical model
  • Create SQL/DDL from physical model and co-ordinate with DBDs and DBAs to implement model add database objects (indexes, partitions, alternate keys, etc.) for performance
  • Generate reports for data modeling tool
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills
  • Eye for detail and accuracy
  • Understanding of structured query language (SQL). The ability to work quickly, under pressure and to deadlines

Professional Experience and Background

  • 5-10 years of experience
  • Must have solid Physical Data Modeling experience and a strong understanding of Logical Data Modeling

Education and Training

  • Bachelor’s Degree

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Create Physical Data Models
  • Help to develop a more structured Data Modeling environment
  • Must be able to take 3rd Normal Form (3NF) Logical Model and turn it into a physical Data Model
  • Will be responsible for creating indexes, keys, volume sizing generate DLL’s and control Data redundancy
  • Work with the Database Developers and DBA’s and Application Developer to explain the Data Models
  • Qualified candidates must be able to work from requirements and enhance the current physical models with-out a logical data model
