Network Engineer- Cisco

Palace Gate Corporation is currently seeking a Network Engineer – Cisco for our premier client. This is a full-time opportunity located in Oakbrook IL.

Overview

The desired candidate will be a vital part of the Network Engineering team with expertise required to build, improve, and support our LAN, WAN, Internet, and Wireless technologies at our Data Centers and Campuses. This network professional should be self-motivated, a team player, and willing to assist other IT pros with projects and problems. There is an expectation that the candidate will proactively identify forward looking solutions or find improvements to existing data networks. The candidate will act as a lead on medium to large sized Network projects.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Configuration and troubleshooting of network devices - Nexus 7000 series
  • Configuration and troubleshooting of WAN and Internet technologies
  • Network technologies will be at the Data Center level
  • Design, engineer, and implement complex assignments and projects, including new network solutions
  • Create and maintain network documentation, such as: Visio diagrams, spreadsheets, configuration templates, configuration archives, and inventory of devices and circuits
  • Monitor network performance and circuit status, independently resolve issues
  • Interact with internal IT teams to define requirements and expectations of new and existing network systems, such as VoIP / QoS and other converged technologies
  • Assists users to identify and resolve complex communication problems
  • Serve as an escalation point and provide technical direction for internal IT/Network staff
  • Develop standards, guidelines and training for any piece of network technology
  • Show an eagerness to learn new technologies and develop Proof of Concept scenarios
  • Participate in “on-call” service rotation

Required Experience

• 5-7 years with WAN, LAN, Internet, and WLAN technologies

• 5-7 years with route/switch – BGP, EIGRP, OSPF, VRF, EVN, Spanning Tree, Multicast, QoS, IPSec

• Experience with Cisco Routers, Switches, ASA

• Experience planning and coordinating projects and new site/service installations

• Intermediate problem resolution knowledge of hardware/software platform problems in complex, layered network infrastructure

• Intermediate knowledge of network systems design principles and standards

• Intermediate knowledge of packet capture and analysis

Education, Knowledge, and Expertise:

  • Cisco CCNP preferred, CCNA and other network certifications preferred
  • Microsoft Office, including Visio and Project experience preferred
  • Strong customer service, interpersonal and communication skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to articulate project level presentations to business sponsors
  • Strong troubleshooting and critical thinking skills to resolve complex problems
