Assistant Vice President, Business Analyst 8+ years’ experience SQL Oracle SDLC PACE Eagle (nice to have)

Palace Gate is seeking an Assistant Vice President, Business Analyst in Chicago, IL. This is a full time opportunity.

Technical Skills

  • Should be very comfortable in writing simple to complex SQL for data analysis and ad hoc queries

  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel

  • Strong understanding of relational and multidimensional data modeling

  • Exposure to one or more database platforms (Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle) and business intelligence/reporting tools (Microsoft SSRS, Tableau) a plus

Professional Experience and Background

  • Minimum 8 years of experience working as a hands-on Business Analyst or Business Systems Analyst in an IT organization within the Investment industry

  • Strong background in project management

  • Project experience in one or more areas encompassing Investment Performance Calculations, Attribution, Analytics, Investment or Fund Accounting, and Market/Reference Data

  • Broad knowledge of IT, including experience in SDLC, Business Systems Analysis, and Waterfall/Agile project methodologies

  • Solid understanding of technology governance frameworks, and applications used in the asset management business

  • Strong understanding of multiple asset classes including Equities, Fixed Income and Derivatives.

  • Hands on experience with implementing or supporting an Eagle Performance & PACE platform, with one or more of the following- Eagle PACE data model, Eagle Performance calculation, Eagle OLAP/advanced reports, Eagle Portal, a big plus

  • Experience with Portia, Investment Accounting systems, and Investment Data Warehouse an added plus

Education and Training

  • Bachelor’s Degree required

  • Master’s degree, Performance measurement or other financial certification, a plus

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Analyze and document Performance reporting requirements across multiple data domains that include portfolio reference data, security reference, holdings, transactions, NAV, benchmarks, performance RORs, equity attribution, GIPS, and analytics (Equity and Fixed Income)

  • Create detailed project plans, manage the execution of the defined projects to the established project plan and budget, and regularly communicate project progress and expectations to the business units and the IT leadership

  • Facilitate all aspects of user acceptance testing including creation and execution of use/test cases, bug tracking, review, prioritization, and resolution

  • Create appropriate documentation, and provide end user training of newly implemented solutions as required

  • Assist with active and effective management of relevant vendors that support the Investment Performance, Investment Services, and Fund Board business units

  • Through appropriate knowledge transfer from the other team members, coupled with on-the-job training, this position will be expected to perform the following tasks on the Eagle platform:

  • Configure performance calculations, OLAP reports, message streams, generic up loaders, entity builds, custom blends, event packages, process workflows, and process initiators within the Eagle platform

  • Configure benchmarks (including Custom Blends)

  • Setup/support the Equity specific SMF attribution grouping models and Retail calculations

  • Develop/enhance Eagle OLAP/advanced reports and the Eagle Performance data mart, and integrate custom reports with stored procedures for complex logic as required to support the Performance reporting requirements

  • Load historical data from various internal and external sources (Portia, APL, NAVs, SCD, RIMES, and other internal databases) as required

  • Collaborate with other team members in issue diagnosis and resolution, and participate/assist in production cutover, migration, and run-the-business application support

  • Be an active member of the BC/DR planning and execution process, working with the team to ensure that the needs of the business unit are properly documented and met in BC/DR exercises.


The Assistant Vice President Business Analyst Business Analyst will be a member of a team of cross skilled technology professionals that are aligned with the Investment Performance, Investment Services (consisting of Risk Management, Equity Oversight, Fixed Income Oversight, and Pricing/Valuation areas), and Fund Board business units. This position will be working on projects for the Investment Performance business unit, with Eagle Performance as the centralized Performance Calculation, Attribution, Analytics, GIPS, and Investment Performance reporting application. Over time, this position will also have the opportunity to work on projects for the Investment Services and Fund Board business units.
